In 2022, more than 1 billion end-of-life tires were generated globally. In 2019, the global tire industry consumed 47.7 million tons of raw materials. Emissions from fabricating tires for industrial vehicles can vary, but a study comparing the carbon footprints of new tires and retreads showed that the manufacture of a 17.5-inch new tire produces 86.9 kg of CO2 emissions. Many multinational companies, such as Heineken, ABinBev, Lala, Cemex, and Grupo Modelo, which possess many truck fleets, are considered some of the major CO2 emitters in the Latam region. Cutting CO2 emissions and costs related to tires and the maintenance of tires has become a priority for many of these companies. Technological innovation has enabled the creation of EVs that reduce CO2 emissions in regard to the consumption of fossil fuels; however, a significant source of CO2 emissions and a major cost-related expense is, and will continue to be, the tires and maintenance of their numerous truck fleets.
